"... to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine... to Him be glory....!
Eph. 3:20 (NIV)
Feb. 2010
When I was a kid, I got the wind knocked out of me playing basketball. I was driving to the hoop, (as much as a big guy like me can drive to the hoop!) when somebody stepped into the lane and WHAM! – I got hammered. It was a hard foul, with feet and arms flying everywhere! And then I’m on the floor. I wanted to breathe, but all that came out was this weird wheezing sound. I knew I had to breathe, or else – but the more I wanted to breathe, the more I wheezed, and the more scared I got. It was my coach who came to my side and said “It’s ok – just relax – just breathe….”
Sometimes, as Christians, it feels like that. We’re just doing our thing, living for the Lord, and then…. WHAM! Something comes and knocks us off our feet.
You lose your job.
A dear friend dies.
The doc says “It might be cancer.”
There are problems with your kids,
or your parents,
or both.
And in those moments, it can feel like we just can’t catch our breath, spiritually speaking. We want to get back on our feet – we want to get back into the game. We know we have to get back on our feet, but the harder we try, the more it feels like we’re wheezing spiritually. Sometimes it seems like the blow is just too great, and we wonder if we’ll ever catch our breath again.
Today, if you’re down on the court, wheezing for breath as you read this – here’s a good word from the Word:
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted in the earth….
The Lord Almighty is with us;
The God of Jacob is our fortress.”
(PS 46:10-11 NIV)
In other words, relax. Your heavenly coach is here, and He’s simply saying “It’s ok – be still – just breathe….”
Praying God’s blessing for you,
Pastor Scott
